Student Acceptable Use Policy

1.0        Introduction

SmartLab is a diagnostic and learning platform designed to help you identify potential strengths and areas for improvement. SmartLab will also direct you to learning activities based on areas for improvement.

SmartLab will also assist your teachers explore your strengths and learning gaps to best assist you throughout the schooling year. Teachers can also set material for you via SmartLab.

When using SmartLab please ensure that you are being safe, respectful and responsible. We also encourage you to be invested in your learning.

This policy sets out expectations when using SmartLab.

2.0        Use SmartLab for educational purposes only

You must only use SmartLab for educational purposes. Education purposes include:

  • completing diagnostic module as assigned by your teacher giving each answer your best attempt;
  • exploring results when they are made available to you following a diagnostic module;
  • engaging with learning tutorials as assigned by your teacher or recommended by SmartLab.

3.0        Following the directions of your teacher

When using SmartLab you should be proactive in engaging with the work set by your teacher. You can find the work in your SmartLab Task List. In your Task List you will find:

  • Assigned Diagnostics – These are diagnostics that your teacher has set for you to help explore your strengths and learning gaps.
  • Teacher Assigned Tutorials – These are learning tutorials containing videos, worksheets and practice questions that your teacher has set for you.
  • SmartLab Recommended Activities – These are activities automatically recommended to you via SmartLab. You may like to independently explore these.

4.0        Be mature when using short response

Some questions on SmartLab may ask you to provide a short response. Your teacher will see the short answer responses you submit. Unacceptable use of these text input fields would include inputting anything other than your best attempt to correctly answer the question.

For completeness you must not use the input fields for:

  • obscene, inflammatory, racist, discriminatory or derogatory language;
  • insulting or harassing others;
  • sharing links to any other 3rd party sites;
  • sharing your personal information or the personal information of others, further explained in points 5 to 7 below.

5.0        Protect your private information

You must always be careful when sharing information over the internet.

Do not divulge your personal information. Personal information can include your name, your family member’s names, address, email, phone number and account information to external sites including usernames and passwords.

6.0        Do not share personal information of others

Do not invade your fellow students’ privacy by sharing someone else’s personal information. This may include providing their name, their family’s names, addresses, emails or phone numbers.

7.0        Use your own account

You must only use the account that is assigned to you by your teacher.

You must not use another student or staff member’s username or password to access SmartLab.

If you believe you know the username or password of any other student or staff member, inform your teacher immediately. 

8.0        Do not plagiarise the work of others

SmartLab has been designed to help you with your own areas for improvement.

You should never plagiarise information or copy the work of another student.

9.0        Do not copy the work of SmartLab

You must not copy the software, information, text, graphics or other data of SmartLab.

10.0     Be mindful of others when playing audio

SmartLab’s tutorials and questions have audio support. Please be considerate of your fellow students when listening to audio. You may like to consider headphones when engaging with the audio support on SmartLab.

11.0     If using a shared device ensure you are logged out at the end of your session

If you are using a shared device, ensure the previous user has logged out and that you also log out following your session on SmartLab.

12.0     Do not share diagnostic results with others

Your diagnostic results are personal to you. You should not share the results to your peers.
